A tour, led by Diana Nedeva and Meeting Points, in restaurants and food and spice shops in the area of the Women’s Market, takes us through different culinary cultures and their languages.
Encounters with the people behind some of the city’s most exciting places to eat become an occasion to talk about the different languages through which we name food. Many of the words we use have Arabic, Persian, and Kurdish origins. Diana Nedeva explores these threads of language, already deeply woven into who we are, through words placed on shop windows that guide our taste experiences into a broader social context. In this way, we connect through both words and spices.
Meeting Points, organizer of the event, believes in the transformative power of human encounters when we connect with each other, sharing stories, experiences and ideas. That’s why the mission of Vesi Deyanova and Diana Nedeva is to create opportunities for these touchpoints to exist. They achieve this through various forms of art, culture, informal education and volunteering – in real interaction with the environment and the residents.
