The overpass on the Blvd. “Academician Ivan Evstatiev Geshov” (in the direction of traffic between “Tsar Boris the Third” Blvd. and “Odrinsko Lake” St.)

Description

In our hectic daily lives, we take the same route repeatedly and often don’t pay attention to what’s around us until we have to slow down for some reason beyond our control. One of these reasons is often the “traffic jam”, which forces us to perceive with particular attention and duration the urban environment, revealing its unexpected aspects. Gridlock is a project that explores just such an urban space that can only be seen when we are in a traffic jam. The project envisions the retaining wall of the elevated bridge on the Blvd. “Akademik Ivan Evstatiev Geshov” to be installed fragments of painted glass, where the reinforcement network is exposed after the demolition of the concrete. The fragments are intended as “Easter eggs” for those caught in the congestion, but also as a commentary on our hectic daily lives in which we neglect our immediate environment.
