Description
“The People of Druzhba draws inspiration from the notion of the neighbourhood as a fabric in which people are the threads that make up its uniqueness and essence. In this context, I will use several former flower shops – metal structures located by the lake in the quarter.” Druzhba “. Originally intended to enrich the public space, they have lost their function over time. The intervention will involve weaving threads and strips of different materials, sizes and colours between the metal rods of these structures. Additionally I will use materials for inlay, painting and modelling. I will provide random participants with additional materials for various details, such as stitch and needle, and colored pebbles, to add more detail to the fabric of” Friendship “. The woven cover will resemble a 3D scan of the surrounding area, using the outlines of the blocks, the Roma neighbourhood, Vitosha and the lake. The strips superimposed on the cylindrical surface of the planter will represent the quarter.” Druzhba 1 as an intricate and beautiful network, symbolising the neighbourhood in the capital.
During the making I will provoke (and document) the active participation of locals and random passers-by in the weaving process. Informational signs will be placed next to the constructions with the names of the people who participated and helped me with the end result. This will highlight that empowering people to participate in art leaves a lasting mark on them, reminding them that they are the ones who build and protect their environment.
Thus, the project will foster a sense of community and empathy among the participants through collaboration and participation in the process. “People of Friendship” will be a shared creation that highlights the collective contribution to building the neighborhood and its identity. This art installation is not just decoration, but a living fabric created by and for the people that unites and inspires the community. My ambition is for these installations to become not only a place for photographs, but also a starting point for walks and conversations about life, creating new memories and strengthening connections between people.
