“Na kino, na selo” and “Nine Elephants” arrive in the village of Dolna Dikanya to create the first cinema-event in the newly opened hall of the People’s Community Centre “Nikola Pavlov Korchev – 1928”.

A new cinema in the hall of the Nikola Pavlov Korchev – 1928 Cultural Center, the result of a joint effort between the residents of Dolna Dikanya and the Cinema in the Village festival, opens its doors for the first time during the Nine Elephants festival. The organisers say about the cinema: “The hall has been renovated through the collective efforts of the local community and will be a key space for cinema and culture in the village. The incredible joint effort invested in the renovation is an example of how much we can achieve when we work together and when we believe in the need for community spaces and access to culture. We hope that the story of Dolna Dikanya will inspire other villages with big dreams.”

The screening presents SHIBIL (2019, drama, 115 min) by director Nikola Bozadzhiev. This is a new adaptation of the well-known short story of the same name by Yordan Yovkov, telling the story of Rada and Shibil, a beautiful tale with an unexpected ending about the love between a fearless outlaw and a noble young woman.

The screening on 13 July 2025 is only the beginning of the village’s encounters with contemporary cinema – Dolna Dikanya becomes one of the 15 cinema villages in the 2025 edition of the Cinema at the Village festival. On the same day the village celebrates its holiday – with a rich outdoor program.

Festival Cinema at the Village aims to make contemporary Bulgarian and European cinema accessible in the smallest settlements in Bulgaria, as well as to create an opportunity for Bulgarian filmmakers to present their work to new audiences. The pilot edition of the festival Cinema at the Village was held in the summer of 2024 with three screenings between July and September and was the prerequisite for testing the working model before the expansion of the festival to 10 locations in 2025. The participating villages in 2025 are Trudovets, Lik, Negushevo, Malka Arda, Borovan, Dolni Vadin, Kurtovo Konare, Smolyanovtsi, Deleina and Svezhen, with 6 screenings in each village between April and October.

In cooperation with Nikola Pavlov Korchev – 1928 Cultural Centre and local citizens.
